Red Line Northeast Action Staff

Jose Abola • Office Manager

David DesideratoState Support Director
David is a long-time progressive activist in Connecticut. David came to Northeast Action after seven years as Research Director at the Connecticut Citizen Action Group, four years as Executive Director of the Hartford-based Citizens Research Education Network, and a year as Staff Director for the Hartford City Council Democratics. David has played a key role in developing Northeast Action's training program and bringing our curriculum to new audiences across the Northeast. David has also played a significant role helping strengthen our affiliates' core infrastructures as our State Support Director.

Cynthia Suarez •Training Director
Cynthia joined Northeast Action in 2004 as Training Director. She has an extensive background in project coordination, program development, research, writing, convening, fundraising, facilitation, training, and collaborative work practices. Cindy previously worked at the Interaction Institute for Social Change, The Boston Foundation, the Bay State Banner, and Inquilinos Boricuas en Accion.

Cynthia Ward • Executive Director
Cynthia brings over 20 years of organizing experience to Northeast Action. She began work as a VISTA volunteer in 1980, developing organizing campaigns in Illinois to win access to health care for the uninsured. In 1986, she returned to the East Coast to work with Mass Fair Share, and became director of Massachusetts Citizen Action. Cynthia joined the Northeast Action staff in 1991 to develop the Progressive Policy Initiative, a think tank for the progressive network. Growing out of this work, Cynthia staffed the development of A Call to Action—Labor's Agenda for Economic Conversion in New England. Since becoming Northeast Action's Executive Director in 2000, Cynthia has led Northeast Action to shift from a focus on coordinated regional issue campaigns to a new focus on organizational infrastructure building for our affiliates and allied organizations.

Consultant

Carin Schiewe • Voter Mobilization Consultant
After working with Mass Fair Share, Carin worked with MassNARAL, and for almost 20 years led the Commonwealth Coalition as it launched important projects to expand democratic participation, such as Clean Elections, Voter Power, and WomenIn. Since 2002, Carin has consulted with Northeast Action, providing hands-on support to affiliates and conducting civic engagement training in four states. Carin has also consulted with the Boston Foundation's Civic Engagement Initiative, evaluated 2004 civic engagement for the Proteus Fund and consults with Oiste?, a Massachusetts organization promoting Latino civic engagement.
