Red Line What We Do
Our country is in crisis. Millions of Americans face a reality of insecure jobs, stagnant real wages, and a fear of falling further down the economic ladder. At the same time, disillusioned by a lack of accessibility, fairness, accountability and responsiveness in the political system, millions of people conclude that their voices do not count and their votes do not matter.

Conservatives appeal to these millions, often successfully, with promises of quick fixes while promoting divisive tactics that scapegoat targeted social and racial groups as the cause of economic and social problems. All too often this movement succeeds in setting the economic and political agenda of communities across the nation. There is and should be a better alternative. Our country needs a progressive movement that can bring multiple constituencies to the decision-making table, put forward real solutions to these problems, and make our society work for all its citizens. Progressives must increase their efforts to build a powerful, organized political base, seize opportunities to redefine the nation's political agenda, and craft credible policy alternatives that respond to the reality of people's everyday lives.

Northeast Action responds to these needs by providing comprehensive strategic assistance, organizational support and technical services to a vital constellation of action organizations and state coalitions in the six New England states and New York. As the hub of this dynamic network, Northeast Action's strategy to build the progressive movement consists of three interrelated components. Our goals are to ensure that the network and its member organizations remain dynamic and healthy, and operating with a clear sense of strategic direction, increased capacity for collective action, and connection to core constituencies. At the same time, thousands of new activists need to be brought in, especially from communities that traditionally have been underrepresented in the political system. Finally, our regional work should contribute to and benefit from national progressive initiatives and organizing efforts. Northeast Action provides systematic, strategic and sustainable support services to our network of affiliates for:

Since 1984, Northeast Action and its affiliates have successfully implemented this strategy winning national recognition for precedent-setting victories on issues like campaign finance reform and economic accountability. We have been able to offer reasoned critiques and move public policy agendas in a coordinated fashion across the Northeast as well as on a state by state basis that is unparalleled in the nation.
